"Circumstances when you should absolutely NOT buy glasses online"

23 March 2011

Purchasing your prescriptions glasses online or via mail order can be provide an excellent money saving alternative to buying from a high street optician.  However it is not the right option for everyone and there are  several circumstances when you should absolutely NOT buy your glasses online.  The following are the 3 main circumstances when you should not buy your glasses online:-

1. If you are buying for someone under the age of 16.  In the UK under the Opticians Act 1989.  This is because it is illegal to dispense glasses to the under 16s unless a qualified optometrist or Dispensing Optician is actually present

 2. If you have a very high or complex prescription.  With this type of prescription you need to be measured to ensure that the centres of the lenses match the centre of your pupils. If this is incorrect it could lead to visual distortion and headaches

3. If your prescription is over 2 years old

If in doubt give us a call.  We can arrange for you to talk to a qualified dispensing optician about your specific prescription [0844 870 7894] and what level of service we can provide in your area.

We pride ourselves  on providing honest, no nonsense advice so that you can make an informed decision about whether mail order glasses or a purchase from a more traditional local high street optician is going to provide the best solution for your particular needs.
